Anita invited several friends over to cut up magazines and create these fun magnets. For some reason I got the idea to use pictures of eyes for most of mine. On one magnet – the moon – I put a thin layer of glue on the picture and sprinkled microglitter on it before gluing down the glass marble cabochon. (This photo distorted the image of the magnet a bit.)

We had an art teacher, a pastel artist, a raku and all-around artist, a children’s book illustrator, a graphic designer, a newbie artist and one creative kid. Since we all brought different talents to the table, it was interesting to see what everyone came up with.

We may have done more chatting and eating than actually producing much, but hey, that’s half the fun! We plan on doing this more often.

A Good Cry by Marcella Nordbeck

I had the privilege of interviewing a very lovely woman who is as interesting as her art. Marcella Nordbeck moved here just a little over a year ago and hit the local art scene running. She has taken acrylics to the extreme with her original compositions incorporating various layers of paint, sand, and more.

During the creative process, she makes use of the extended drying time it takes after each layer is applied. She trades her paint brush for a pen. Marcella journals about the painting and what it means to her, and the intuitive process of what comes out on her canvas.

Recently her writings have caught the interest of Penguin, the publisher of Julia Cameron’s book, The Artist’s Way. Marcella has been blogging about her experiences while going through the creative exercises in the book. The Tarcher/Penguin website published Marcella’s post at http://www.tarcherbooks.net/?p=1643

You will enjoy Marcella’s blog, Observations of an Artist: http://marcellanordbeck.blogspot.com/
You can see Marcella’s work on her website: http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/marcella-nordbeck.html
